Academic Clinical Fellow
I am an Academic Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine. I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to do my research at HCRI under Professor Tony Redmond. I am currently working on a project regarding attacks on healthcare workers in conflict zones.
Violence against healthcare workers has become more pervasive and is having detrimental effects to how healthcare is delivered in fragile regions. My particular research is to determine what data would allow for a complete understanding of the immediate and long-term impacts of an attack on healthcare. This will not only help us to advocate more fiercely for these attacks to end, but also help develop preventative measures to lessen the impacts of attacks. This is a matter the WHO has said must be a priority moving forward with this project.
The most exciting aspect of being at HCRI is being involved in research that is really changing how humanitarians respond and address the needs of the most vulnerable. Being at HCRI has also given me the opportunity to work with the WHO in developing their global surveillance system on attacks on healthcare. These opportunities have arisen thanks to the great connections the institution has with leading thinkers and organisations in the humanitarian field. Following my fellowship, I plan to complete my PhD at HCRI and would like to continue to be a part of its work in the future.
